The next in the series is the Amtrak station. This was built from the Walthers Cornerstone kit that is a good representation of most Midwest facilities I’ve seen while riding on the long distance trains. It’s also a great way to relax and see the countryside, but that’s another story… 🙂
The corner piece was at first going to be a simple 4 lane road, but then I thought about giving my Amtrak train a place to stop. It actually worked out perfectly in size for both the station and parking lot.

First step was to prep the pavement and foundation for the building and parking lot. I simply cut a piece of .030″ styrene sheet to fit the curve. I used standard drywall putty to fill in the small gaps between the rails and the styrene (pink stuff seen below).

Once that was dry, I sanded it down to make sure it was flush with the rails and then gave it a flat grey/black color. Once dry, I went over it lightly with 600 grit sand paper to give it a more worn look.

I then added the hedge row (Walthers scenery) to separate the parking lot from the passenger platform area and started adding the lines for the road and the small parking lot. Park benches were also added to give the passenger a place to sit. The lines were made with 1/16″ chartpak graphic art tape that I got off Amazon.

I started adding more super trees to each side of the parking lots and added the road divider landscaping, which also houses the stations main sign. Woodland Scenics lights were then added to the passenger platform.

Next up, I added the concrete section with light cement colored paint and then added some rough patches along with the weathered yellow “do not cross” line. The vending machines by the station doors are from a small company located here in OH called Leavin’ A Mark.

Next up, was simply adding figures to the scene. Yes, that’s Forrest Gump sitting on the bench waiting for the bus. 🙂
